Our Story
In 1998, Comfort Keepers was founded by Kris Butler, a registered home nurse with a heart for helping others. While caring for patients, Kris noticed a crucial, often overlooked need: many of her clients longed for companionship and everyday assistance that went beyond medical care. Her patients would light up at the chance to chat, do a puzzle, or have someone help with simple tasks like laundry and transportation. However, in her role as a nurse, Kris was limited in how she could meet those needs.
Moved by the emotional struggles and isolation that many seniors faced, Kris knew she had to do more. With the support of her husband, Jerry, and their children, she began to shape a vision for a company focused on bringing joy and meaningful support to seniors. Together, they brainstormed the perfect name that captured the essence of keeping clients comfortable and happy in their homes. Kris’s young daughter suggested “Comfort Keepers”—a name beautifully reflecting the company’s mission. And so, Comfort Keepers was born.
What began as Kris’s dream has grown into a global movement. Comfort Keepers has expanded from a small family business to over 700 locations worldwide thanks to her passion and expertise. Today, we proudly serve seniors and adults with disabilities in 12 countries through independently owned and operated offices committed to making a real difference in their communities.
Even as Comfort Keepers has grown, our commitment to quality and compassion remains as strong as when Kris first started. We continue to set high standards by hiring exceptional caregivers, fostering a culture of care and empathy, and embracing innovative technologies that enhance our clients' well-being.
Our dedication has earned recognition from industry leaders, and we are honored to be celebrated as a trusted name in senior home care. Comfort Keepers remains true to its founding mission: to deliver the warmth, comfort, and companionship that make life worth living.
