Our Story
Kris Butler, a dedicated registered home nurse, founded 1998 Comfort Keepers. While caring for patients, Kris observed that their needs extended beyond medical care. Many of her clients longed for meaningful companionship and sought small acts of kindness to enhance their daily lives. Yet, due to the nature of her nursing role, Kris could not fulfill these simple yet vital requests—whether it was helping with laundry, providing transportation, or sharing a moment over a puzzle.
Recognizing the emotional and social challenges faced by seniors, Kris saw a chance to make a real difference. She was determined to create a service that could meet these unfulfilled needs. Collaborating with her husband, Jerry, and their young children, Kris set out to find a name that reflected the warmth and purpose of her vision. After much thought, her daughter suggested “Comfort Keepers”—a name that perfectly captured the company’s mission: to help clients remain comfortably at home as a compassionate alternative to costly nursing facilities. And so, Comfort Keepers was born.
Driven by Kris’s expertise and passion, Comfort Keepers grew from a heartfelt idea into a global success, with more than 700 locations worldwide.
Today, Comfort Keepers operates in 12 countries through independently owned and operated locations, enriching the lives of seniors and adults with disabilities. Despite our global reach, we remain deeply committed to the same level of care and quality that Kris envisioned over two decades ago. We uphold our standards by recruiting top talent, nurturing a compassionate culture, and embracing innovative technology to improve our clients’ well-being.
