Folsom is a census-designated town in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of Ridley Township and is a total of 1.2 square miles. The population of Folsom was 8,323 at the 2010 census.
History
Folsom is located in Ridley Township which was settled in 1644 by the Swedes and then the Dutch in 1655.
Folsom was named for Frances Folsom, the new wife of then-president Grover Cleveland the town opened for real estate sales in late 1886. The original sales company was The Folsom Land Company, headed by lawyer William Henry Sutton and large landowner Thomas T. Tasker. The sales continued until 1894 when the company went out of business.
The first Wawa convenience store opened on April 16, 1964, located in Folsom at the intersection of MacDade Boulevard and Swarthmore Avenue. The franchise later closed on June 27, 2016, in favor of a "Super Wawa" that opened right down the street. A parade was held from the original Wawa to the new location in celebration of this monumental store.
