History
The borough of Chester Heights predates grants of William Penn, when the Swedes had settled the area to be close to the Delaware River. They found that the soil in the area was rich enough for productive farming. Thanks to the invention of the railroad, which helped bring traffic to the town and ran straight through the town, the population was able to grow rapidly.
Chester Heights was originally a part of Aston, PA until the northwestern portion of the township, who was against a proposed tax hike, decided to secede from the township to create the borough of Chester Heights! It was finally incorporated in 1945. Chester Heights is also home to three landmarks that are a part of the National Register of Historic Places including the Chamberlain-Pennell House, Stonehaven, and the Chester Heights Camp Meeting Historic District.
Fun Fact: Wawa Food Markets, a convenience store/gas staple of east coast residents known for its delicious hoagies, is based in Chester Heights and holds its headquarters there!
