The Birth of Comfort Keepers
In 1998, Kristina Butler, a registered nurse in-home senior care, encountered a gap in the care provided to her patients. While she could address their medical and skilled care needs, many of her patients yearned for more companionship and assistance with everyday tasks to enhance their quality of life.
Kristina noticed that her clients often valued simple acts of kindness just as much as their medical care. Whether it was helping with laundry, providing a ride to the doctor, or simply sharing a conversation over a puzzle, her patients longed for someone to bring a bit of joy into their daily lives.
Determined to meet this need, Kristina brainstormed with her family to find the perfect name for her new venture. Her daughter suggested "Comfort Keepers," reflecting the company's mission to help clients remain comfortably at home, offering an alternative to costly nursing homes and senior facilities. And so, Comfort Keepers was born.
Growing from a Dream to a Global Network
Since its inception in 1998, Comfort Keepers has grown from a heartfelt idea into a thriving enterprise with over 700 locations worldwide. Today, we provide uplifting in-home senior care services to thousands of seniors each day across 13 countries. Each location is independently owned and operated, with dedicated teams making a meaningful impact in their communities.
Many of our franchise owners joined Comfort Keepers after experiencing firsthand the positive difference in-home care made in the lives of their own loved ones. Their personal experiences inspired them to become part of a culture centered on care and compassion.
