Area seniors treated to a Joy Cruise

TRAVERSE CITY, MI JUNE 11, 2024—Get ready to bring joy to a senior on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in recognition of The National Day of Joy. This joyous holiday, registered with The National Holiday Archives in 2019 by Comfort Keepers, is a call to action to find and create moments of joy in our own lives and the lives of others. The holiday is celebrated in more than 100 communities nationwide.

Pre-registered Traverse City seniors are being treated to a chartered Joy Cruise on West Grand Traverse Bay at 11:00 AM on The Discovery including food, music, treats, and a guided tour. In Petoskey, seniors will embark at 12:45 PM on a celebration and guided tour of Little Traverse Bay aboard the Harbor Princess.

“We believe that no matter your age or acuity, it is never too late to find ways to live joyfully and with purpose,” said Leslie Knopp, Comfort Keepers NW Michigan co-owner. “In our work with caregivers, seniors, and their families, we understand the value of experiencing moments of joy daily to boost overall health, mood, and well-being. This National Day of Joy, we encourage our community to rejoice in the activities and the moments we live for - whatever it takes to make us laugh, smile, and create memories of a lifetime.”

This year’s Joy Cruises takes the celebration to the region’s natural waters.

Why a Joy Cruise? Leslie Knopp explains, “Everyone feels better when they’re in, on, or near water. Neuroscientists call this Blue Mind, a feeling of calm relaxation in response to natural water. Our bodies relax and our brains release hormones responsible for pleasure and happiness. The science supports what northern Michiganders have always known.”

Comfort Keepers hopes to inspire families to share the joy of engaging with natural water with the seniors in their lives. A walk on a beach or a bench by a river can bring joy. The company delivers uplifting support to seniors on this day and every day. Comfort Keepers has made it their mission to help today’s seniors thrive, find joy, and invest in, inspire, and nurture the caregivers who care for them.
