Frequently Asked Questions About Comfort Keepers Elder Home Care Services

Learn valuable information about elder home care services and how your family can get started with Comfort Keepers of Wichita, KS.

What is home care? How is it different from home healthcare?

Home care is any type of care provided for a client in their home. However, while it can refer to both medical and non-medical care, the term ''home care'' is typically used to describe non-medical care services like personal care, homemaking, and companionship. Home healthcare, on the other hand, is used to describe medical care such as nursing care of physical therapy.

What services does Comfort Keepers® provide?

Comfort Keepers provides a wide array of elder home care services, including meal planning and preparation, housekeeping and laundry, grocery/home shopping and running errands, medication reminders, transportation, and more. We provide personal care services such as bathing, dressing, and grooming, mobility assistance, transferring and positioning, toileting and incontinence care, and feeding assistance. Our specialized care options include respite care, dementia and Alzheimer's disease care, and end of life care. We can also offer our innovative technology solutions for seniors such as personal emergency response systems.

How are Comfort Keepers® selected?

Comfort Keepers works with only the best caregivers. We carefully select our elder home care experts - each candidate must undergo a detailed screening process, which includes background and reference checks, go through a series of interviews, and own a driver's license and reliable vehicle. All our caregivers are bonded, insured, and covered by Workers' Compensation insurance.

How much does home care cost?

The price of elder home care depends on several factors, such as the type of services your loved one needs, how many hours per week they want to receive care, and whether they have any special care needs. For an estimate of the cost, please contact our office and schedule your free in-home consultation. After assessing your loved one's needs, our care coordinators can provide you with precise financial information.

Are services available 24 hours, 7 days a week?

Yes, we offer our services 24/7/365, weekends and holidays included. With us, your loved one can receive care of the highest quality whenever they may need it.

Do you provide services to those in nursing homes or assisted living communities?

Yes. We understand that nursing homes or assisted living communities may not provide all seniors with all the services they need for a high-quality lifestyle. We can offer personal care, companionship or other services to residents of assisted living communities and nursing homes who may require additional support or want to receive personalized care.

Is there a written plan of care for each client? Can it be modified?

For each of our clients, we develop personalized elder home care plans in accordance with their needs, routine, interests, and more. Once the client and their family members are happy with the proposed plan, we recommend the best, most compatible caregiver, establish the schedule of care, and agree on other details such as monitoring and communication.

Our care plans are reviewed at least once every six months, but if your loved one would like to make changes to their plan sooner, they may do so at any time.

What if my caregiver is sick or on vacation?

All our offices employ many skilled and professional caregivers who are trained and qualified to provide all the services found in our portfolio. If your loved one's caregiver is unavailable, our client care coordinators will find the most adequate replacement.

 What are ADLs and IADLs?

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) are basic tasks required for daily functioning, such as bathing, eating, toileting, and mobility. Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) are more complex daily tasks such as housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, and shopping.
