In 1923, the Commonwealth Trust Company sold the land that Palos Verdes Estates now sits on with heavy restrictions. According to the company, the land must be preserved in a style that would resemble the ranches that once laid on the land. There were to be land preserved for nature and for equestrian trails. There are no stoplights in order to give the land the look and feel of a typical ranch.
