About Our Comfort Keepers
We provide our clients and their families topnotch caregivers. We carefully select Comfort Keepers through a thorough interviewing process, which includes national background checks and personal and professional references.
We also put top priority on hiring only candidates who demonstrate a genuine heart for serving seniors and helping them maintain a high quality of independent living. To our caregivers, caregiving is not just a job; it is their calling.
Comfort Keepers candidates must also pass this test to get hired: Would we feel comfortable having them care for a loved one of our own? If not, they are not on our team.
We provide our caregivers extensive, hands-on training, which includes preparing them to care for persons with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Our caregivers also complete in-service trainings twice a year, along with specialty training in areas such as hospice awareness, Alzheimer’s awareness and elder abuse. Comfort Keepers also complete an orientation to learn about Comfort Keepers’ special brand of care, Interactive Caregiving.
Comfort Keepers’ success is enhanced by our attention to matching clients and caregivers for compatibility, based on their interests, personalities, caregivers’ special skills and clients’ needs.
To make certain that caregiving is working for our clients, our Client Advocate meets with each client two weeks after caregiving begins. We encourage our clients to provide us feedback so we can make changes as needed. There is no additional charge for this service.
About Interactive Caregiving®
Through Interactive Caregiving™ Comfort Keepers involve their clients in performing, as much as they are able, the activities of daily living. This strengthens their confidence and level of independence, helps keep their minds sharp and contributes to a more positive outlook on life.
Comfort Keepers also weave activities into the routine of personal and companionship caregiving to stimulate their clients’ minds and engage them physically and socially to enhance their enjoyment and quality of life. Such activities may include working on puzzles, playing games, going on walks, reminiscing, preparing a meal, visiting friends, going to the grocery and working on a hobby.
Keeping seniors engaged in activities of interest to them creates a sense of purpose and control over their lives. It helps ward off depression and enhances physical well-being.
Partnering with Families
Comfort Keepers allows families to be as involved in their loved ones’ senior care as much as they are able and desire. No matter a family’s level of involvement, we maintain communication to keep families up-to-date about their loved ones’ care and issues that need to be addressed.
Families who are actively involved in a family member’s care can benefit from Comfort Keepers’ respite care services. Through this service, a Comfort Keeper comes into the home as needed to allow a family caregiver to take time off to rest, take a vacation or attend to other responsibilities. Although it has its rewards, caregiving can be demanding work. In the interest of their own health and that of their loved ones, caregivers need time for themselves—and we’re here to help make that happen.
